Jewish-Christian Relations in Medieval Egypt

Studying Jewish-Christian relations in the late antique Byzantine world, and late antique and medieval Latinate Europe confines our understanding of those relations to a single hierarchical framework in which Christians held political dominance over Jews. In the European Research Council project, »Jews and Christians in the East: Strategies of Interaction between the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean«, abbreviated as »JewsEast« I and a team of researchers examined Jewish-Christian relations in various polities throughout pre-modern Asia and Africa after the coming of Islam. In these regions Jews and Christians interacted under a wide array of power relationships.
